Event Details »

The Walks of the Tops
(Top-10 of the ITA Awards Declared)

The Indian Television Academy created a unique occasion on the 9th November, ’09 at the Club, in Juhu. It was an event wherein upwards of 50 of the biggest TV stars sizzled the ramp in bunches.

It was the occasion when the ITA declared the Top-10 nominations in the Best serial category of the ITA Awards, 2009 and it encompassed the entire spectrum of the soap scene on TV, today. It covered the whole tapestry from Drama to Comedy. Profusely elated at having been nominated, all the pre-eminent stars walked the ramp in a dazzling display to promote their shows.

This year, the ITA Awards attracted a historic (upwards of 2000) number of entries from the TV-industry. The judging process involves a 2-tier Jury. At the outset, all the entries are rated by Panel-1 and their ratings are directly collected by the independent agency Amap for calibrations.

Then, out of the whole lot, Top-10 are short-listed by Amap on the basis of their standing vis-à-vis the 1st panel’s deliberations. Now, these Top-10 go through a second opinion by the Panel-2 and the same is collated and tabulated by Amap. After that, a percentage is derived on the basis of the marks of both the panels and the final Top-4 are decided. Today, the Top-10 were declared and this unprecedented idea of a ‘Walks of the Tops’ was executed by the Academy for the same.

They were all there! In the Best Serial Drama, the nominees were Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo, Baa Bahu Aur Baby, Ballika Vadhu, Ladies Special, Naa Aana Iss Desh Laado, Pavitra Rishta, Saat Phere, Sapna Babul Ka Biddaii, Uttaran, Yeh Rishta Kya Kahlata Hai (in alphabetical order).

And in the Best Serial Comedy, we had FIR, Maniben.com, Sonu Sweety, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma, Yeh Chanda Kanoon Hai.

And those who set the ramp on fire for their shows, included the Top-notch TV stars like Ratan Rajput, Sudesh Berry, Abhishek, Roopa; Beenaf, Sucheta, Shweta, Anjali, Sonali; Avika, Avinash, Vikrant, Vibha, Neha; Ashita, Shilpa, Payal; Meghna, Natasha, Aditya; Ankita, Sushant, Krishna, Rajshree; Sara, Parul. Kinshuk, Angad; Rashmi, Ayub Khan, Pragati Mehta, Vaishali Thakkar; Hina, Naitik, Lata, Sanjeev, Shaurya, Varsha… Ali Asgar, Kiku; Nitin Vakharia; Varun Badola, Shweta Kawatra; Disha, Dilip, Amit Bhatt, Tapu; Juhi Parmar, Asif Shaikh and Tiku Talsania.

Said an obviously euphoric Anu Ranjan (President, The ITA):
‘It looks like the whole Television is on the Ramp here. They are the biggest names in TV, today and we take pride in the fact that they all seem to be so proud after being featured in the Top-10 of the ITA Awards. This shows the implicit trust the Academy has earned in the TV-fraternity vis-à-vis the Awards. We stand totally overwhelmed by it!’

While one beaming bunch after another sparkled on the ramp, Shashi Ranjan (Convenor, The ITA) Said:
‘You can’t imagine a scene like this anywhere else, but at the ITA. The way the whole of TV-fraternity participates in the ITA Awards knows no parallel. Just look at the participants, today – they are actually the who’s who of the soap scene in our Television. It’s a day like this that affirms our faith with which we instituted these Awards. This is the annual festival of joy for the entire TV-fraternity, where being there is more important than anything else. And the fraternity proves it the 9th time, today!’

This event has triggered the final bullet of the ITA Awards, 09 and now all eyes are on Sunday, the 29th November, ’09, when the biggest night if the small screen, will be rolling for the 9th time of unparalleled glory.
