How TO Fashionable
The terms "fashionable" and "unfashionable" were employed to describe whether someone or something fits in with the current or even not so current, popular mode of expression. However, more so in the modern era items termed 'not so current' may indeed fit into the term 'Retro.' Retro fashion allows rule shifts, such as 'old is suddenly new,' thus fashionable. The term "fashion" is frequently used in a positive sense, as a synonym for glamour, beauty and style[citation needed]. In this sense, fashions are a sort of communal art, through which a culture examines its notions of beauty and goodness. The term "fashion" is also sometimes used in a negative sense, as a synonym for fads and trends, and materialism.
There exist a number of cities recognized as global fashion centers or fashion capitals. Fashion Weeks are held in these cities where designers exhibit their new clothing collections to audiences. The main five cities are Tokyo, London, Paris, Milan and New York - these five are renowned for their major influence on global fashion and are headquarters to the greatest fashion companies. Other cities, including Los Angeles, Berlin, Rome, Hong Kong, Moscow, Madrid, Toronto, São Paulo, Melbourne, Osaka, Seoul, Daegu and Singapore also hold fashion weeks and are better recognized every year

Rapid GROWTH In
Fashion designing institutions have been mushrooming in Pakistan since the last few years. These institutions are imparting training to the budding fashion designers considering the rapid growth of fashion industry in Pakistan. Pakistan School of Fashion Design, located behind Aitchison College and adjacent to the Mayo Gardens, was established by Pakistan Government some years back.
With the passage of time, the number of students increased. The institution has now got a new campus in Jauhar Town where a number of new programmes have been introduced. From Pakistan School of Fashion Design it has now been changed to Pakistan Institute of Fashion Design. Its premises are also used for displaying the thesis work of other educational institutions like the National College of Arts and College of Home Economics. Recently thesis of some 32 students were put on display at the Institute’s Campus in Jauhar Town which evoked great interest among the students, their friends and parents. The thesis display was judged by fashion designers Maheen Kardar, Nilofer Shahid and Kamiyar while to encourage the students, Sehyr Saigol, Deepak Parwani, Nomi Ansari, Maria B. and Maheen Khan were also present on the occasion.
The Institute is also supervising three sub-divisions namely Pakistan School of Textile Design, Pakistan School of Fashion Marketing and Promotion and Pakistan School of Products and Accessories.
In a brief speech the Principal, said that the aim behind inviting big names from the fashion industry was to enable the young students to interact with them besides opening the doors of practical life for them.
THE PRINT
Alhamra Art Gallery was the venue of a group exhibition of print work by seven artists under the banner of “The Print”. On display were the print works of Waqas Amjad, Saba Manzoor, Bushra Obaid, Aun Raza, Saba Raza, Mohsin Sahafi and Sarah Zahid.

The fashion show was followed by dance performances by film artist Laila and others, providing entertainment to the select gathering at the event.
CULTURE CONFERENCE
Punjab Governor, Salman Taseer addressed a press conference at the Governor’s House recently to highlight the measures taken in promoting Sufi, Punjabi culture which has been ignored in the past. For this purpose, Universities and all other possible forums would be utilised appropriately to revive the same.
World Punjabi Congress, Chairman, Fakhar Zaman, veteran actor Mustafa Qureshi, Madeeha Gauhar, writer Farkhanda Lodhi, Sabir Lodhi and popular folk singer Ibrarul Haq were among those present at the conference.
POLITICAL ENGAGEMENTS
PPP Parliamentary Leader in Sindh Provincial Assembly, Pir Mazharul Haq paid a goodwill visit to the Punjab capital city for a couple of days and went through a rather hectic schedule of engagements. Pir Mazharul Haq called upon Provincial Chief Minister, Shahbaz Sharif, who is also PML (N) President, where he addressed a press conference and met the local party leaders.
BACK FORM THE UK
PML(N) leader and twice former Prime Minister, Mian Nawaz Sharif has returned home after his brief stay in London.
While talking to newsmen at the Allama Iqbal International Airport of his home city Lahore, Mian Nawaz Sharif made it clear that his party means serious business and would no longer stand any irresponsibility from other partners in the coalition regime.
Earlier on arrival, Mian Nawaz Sharif was warmly greeted by PML (N) President and Provincial Chief Minister, Mian Sahahbaz Sharif, party leaders and workers.
WHO WILL FORM THE NEXT POLITICAL PARTY?
Malik Ghulam Mustafa Khar, who hails from Muzaffargarh, is one of the founder members of PPP along with Chairman Zulfikar Ali Bhutto besides others. He has served as Governor Punjab and has also been a Federal Minister twice. He has been in and out of the PPP a number of times and has come to be known as a maverick political figure besides being famous for his frequent marriages and divorces.
During last week, Malik Ghulam Mustafa Khar addressed a news conference at the Press Club more to lambast the PPP leadership than to outline his future strategy for his political career.
He also joined the Lal Haveli Rawalpindi famed Shaikh Rashid Ahmad when he demanded that fresh polls be held as the coalition regime had failed to deliver.
Shaikh Rashid Ahmad after losing the February election which he had contested on ML (QA) ticket has already formed his own political party named Awami Muslim League which in fact is yet another faction of Pakistan Muslim League. Is Mr Khar going to follow Shaikh Rashid Ahmad and form his own political party after all?

Pumps are in this winter
pumps are hot this winter in Pakistan as they are easy to wear and help keep the feet warm. Pumps are close shoes which help you stay warm in winters. In shoe fashions pumps have been revolutionary and they come in all types from flat pumps to 6 inch heel pumps. Which ever style of shoes you like you have pumps available in it.
When it comes to winter pumps for the 2009 – 2010 season in Pakistan, women have loads of options. High heel pumps, knee high pumps, flat pumps are all in fashion in Pakistan, and no matter what you’re heel preference is, there’s plenty of variety in pumps fashion.
Shoes are most women’s favorite accessory in Pakistan. Every season footwear fashion changes and therefore it’s very important to know what is trendy in Pakistan. Pumps are always in fashion, but this winter this shoe style goes sky high in Pakistan! Pumps and boots are always the epitome of fashion winter shoes in Pakistan. In Pakistan you can’t claim to have the sexiest winter shoe wardrobe imaginable without an enviable selection of pumps.
Pumps, in their most typical form, are lightweight, strapless shoes with closed backs. Generally speaking, pumps have a flawless front upper that is cut closer to the toes than the top of the foot. Pumps need no fastening or lacing, as the foot can be slipped into them easily, although some styles in Pakistan have buckles or laces as a design feature, rather than a necessity. Pumps can have any heels of any height, also. In Pakistan pumps are available in versions with next to no heel, as well as six inch stilettos and beyond, pumps today are ultimately feminine. Low-key, classic pumps signify taste and stylishness. Square toes, crocodile skin, triple-buckles, and bohemian fringing are just some of the things you might not have been expecting to come back into fashion in Pakistan so soon and yet here they are.
Men’s fashion trends
Every season new fashion trends appear on the runway and in stores, but this doesn’t mean that you need to replace your entire wardrobe to look trendy and fashionable.
But there is a hard core of men’s fashion pieces that always rides above the folly of fashion trends to guarantee you a timeless air of sophistication, such as the classic suit, shirt and tie. The best advice to men seeking to achieve that sophisticated look is to ensure that the suit fits well and is of good quality fabric.
If you’re going to buy off the rack, you should always buy your correct size suit, then have a tailor customize your suit to your body. GQ says that the chances are you’re wearing your suit a size too large. The suit shoulders should hug your shoulders (not jut out past them). The classic staples never go out of style. It is important to keep timeless pieces that can be easily updated in your wardrobe to stay with the fashion trends. Some basic fashion trends that are a must in men’s fashion:
- Classic white button down shirt
- Basic t-shirts in solid colors
- Polo shirt
- Khaki pants
- Jeans
- Dark dress pants
- Black suit
The best way to know men’s fashion for the season is to browse the men’s department of your favorite store to see what is hanging on the racks. Don’t like to shop in person? Then go online or flip through magazines to see what is the fashion trends for the season. The most important thing to keep in mind to looking fashionable and stylish is to be comfortable.
Fab hijab
I just had to post these pics when I saw them. Fabulous colors, scarves, accessories and model. Egyptian hijab style for sure.
Gorgeous, what do you think?
Oh, and keep visiting over the weekend, as I will have more time to post some of the hijab-tips I recieved this far.
Hijab Model – Yassmin Mohsen
With all the hijab stylists, designs, hijab fashion shows and magazines, veiled models are in demand in Egypt. Yassmin Mohsen is one of those girls that does hijab modeling.
I like what she is wearing in the picture with the fanous (lamp). Awesome inspiration anyway, although some of the tops she wears with jeans are a little to short for my taste…
Do you like her style?
A different kind of abaya
I just had to post the pictures from this website. The pictures are amazing. I don’t know about the designs or anything..
WoW!!!!
What do you think about these pics?
Highly artistic hijab
This picture fascinates me. The hijab looks sooo artistic. I do not think it will look as nice in reality though.
Would you wear something as colorful as this?
Diversity and hijab in Thailand
I found this photo quite interesting…
This photo is taken in Bankok, Thailand, and features more and less covered ladies. Personally I don’t have anything at all against non veiled women, but in this picture the veiled women looks much much cuter that the non veiled ones (it probably has something to do with the very ugly outfits the non veiled ones are wearing, ugh). I like the red and olive modest outfit to the left.
What do you think about this picture?
Creative hijab photos
I found these photos at flicr (check out the link for more pictures like these). I love the lighting and the details of these pictures taken by Muiz Anwar.
I don’t know if the pictures are taken for a real magazine or if it is just an idea, but judging these pictures, I would buy this magazine right away.
What do you think about these pictures?
Hijabies got attitude
I found this on the web somewhere, but I seem to have misplaced the link. If you know where, let me know so I can link back. I just love these photos, showing some real fun, brave sisters
What do you think about these pictures?
Fantasy hijab
I just love the theme and the colors in these pictures:
I love the colorful, loose garments, especially the upper pink one (minus the “wings”), and the yellow tunic.
What do you think about these outfits?
Fly hijabi
I think this girl knows how to rock her hijab. Sahar Salman is one of the cuter hijab models to be featured in Hejab Fashion magazine. Here are some pictures of her:
I think she carries many of her outfits well, and there are two things that I love about her style; that she is very creative when it comes to the wrapping of the scarves and that she matches her scarves so well with the clothing (that’s what saves the outfit in the 3rd picture with the not very stylish pink top and also in the 6th picture with the black and purple outfit).
What do you think?
The beautiful abaya
There is no doubt the abaya is beautiful and elegant, however they are not always practical everywhere. Though I’m not wearing abayas except when going to the mosque, I would wear it right away, every day if I was living somewhere like the Gulf (though ofcourse it has to be special, beautiful abayas with matching shaylas ”hijabs”, that fit my personality). Here are some new abaya designs:
Beautiful, right? I love the middle blue and black one, though it tends to draw attention to the chest a little too much.
Do you wear abaya? If not, would you gladly do so if moving to a Gulf country?
